This portrait shows James and Elizabeth Langlois, circa 1880s, around the time James became head keeper at Cape Blanco Lighthouse when his sister-in-law’s father, Charles H. Peirce, left lighthouse service. Charles and James had served together there for the previous eight years. James and Elizabeth raised six children at the lighthouse, four of whom either became keepers, surfmen, or married a keeper. (Courtesy Steve Langlois.)
