Lighthouse keeper Ambrose Wasgatt is shown here in the top far left with members of the local chapter of the Grand Army of the Republic at a GAR gathering at the Prospect Harbor Point Lighthouse. After the death of his wife, Ambrose Wasgatt spent his retirement years living with his daughter, Miss Marion H. Wasgatt. After his death she received a letter from C. E. Sherman, Superintendent of Lighthouses that read, “My association with your father in the Lighthouse Service was a very pleasant and his death is a shock to us. I shall never forget his generous nature and his strong moral character, and I find consolation in the thought that the life he lived was one full of those attributes becoming “a true gentlemen.” (Photo courtesy of Larry Reynolds.)
