When the Coast Guard took over the Lighthouse Service in 1939, the lighthouse keepers were given the choice of remaining on as civilian keepers or joining the Coast Guard and Thomas “Frank” Faulkingham joined the Coast Guard, and on August 5, 1939 he was given the rank of Boatswain’s Mate 1C. He is shown here wearing his Coast Guard hat. Thomas Frank Faulkingham died on November 22, 1973 and was buried in the Mount Height Cemetery in Southwest Harbor, Maine. On July 27, 2016, in a Lighthouse Digest sponsored ceremony, a historical United States Lighthouse Service Lighthouse Keeper Memorial Marker was placed at his gravesite.
