Scholars thought that the painting of the rowboat heroine that hangs in the Royal National Lifeboat Institution at the Grace Darling museum was painted by Thomas Brooks after 1880. So, the American Hanaford book was still thought to pre-date the painting making the original image to be of Ida Lewis. (Courtesy Royal National Lifeboat Institution)
