Italian Breda Over L.A. Harbor
In the year 2000 when the late Richard Clayton was coming into the Port of Los Angeles, a flyby of classic vintage aircraft flew overhead at the same time that he saw a sailboat near the lighthouse. He recalled, “I framed the shot of the lighthouses and the sailboat in the viewfinder, looked up as the Italian Breda Ba.64 flew into the frame and I snapped the shot. The old World War II plane made it a threesome.” In his email to us when he submitted the photo, he wrote, “In today’s world of digital photography, an artist would be able to take the original shot of the lighthouse, insert any kind of airplane and any kind of boat, even a motor boat towing a guy on water skis. I do not how to do that at any age.” (Courtesy Richard Clayton, Lighthouse Digest archives.)
