The Los Angeles Harbor Lighthouse as it appeared on a calm day in 1966, the same year when David E. Aikens was washed overboard in a furious storm. It is interesting to note, that back in 1939, Irving Conklin, who was the keeper of the Los Angeles Harbor Lighthouse from 1931 to 1942, told a reporter, perhaps in an effort to keeper tourists away, “Did you ever stroll down a breakwater when 20 foot seas are pounding over it? They’ll recover your body on the beach a week later.”(Lighthouse Digest archives.)
