Ruth Reynolds Glunt and her husband, Chester Barr Glunt, show off their U.S. Lighthouse Service flag on a flag pole on their property. In Ruth’s book, Lighthouses and Legends of the Hudson, she wrote that the old flag was given to her by a man who had been with the old U.S. Lighthouse Service for many years. She said the flag, made of heavy bunting, measured two and one half by four feet. The name of the man who gave it to her was not stated and is unknown to us. Apparently, wanting to preserve the flag, she wrote, “I treasure it among my box of lighthouse keepsakes.” We can only wonder what happened to the flag and where it is today.
