James M. Keanu (left) was the head keeper of the Moloka’i Lighthouse during Commodore Dillon’s visit. Keeper Keanu was the first keeper when the lighthouse was established in 1909 and stayed 17 years. He then transferred elsewhere but returned a second time from 1929 – 1932 and then later for a third time from 1937 to 1939. His assistant, Edward ‘Eddie’ Marques (right), served 10 years from 1936 to 1946. (Edward Marques Photo Collection)
