Maine’s Matinicus Rock Light Station where Merton Everett Tolman served as a lighthouse keeper from 1900 to 1911. Matinicus Rock Lighthouse is located in Penobscot Bay about five miles south of Matinicus Island. Merton’s son Kenneth recalled that he was always worried at Christmastime out on the Rock that Santa would get stuck going down the stovepipe. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
