Civil War veteran Horace G. Holloway, shown here with his granddaughter Ginny, served as the keeper of the Sackets Harbor Lighthouse on Horse Island, New York from 1884 to 1909. Both his father and his grandfather were veterans of the Revolutionary War. His daughter, Ione, married George Ward, who became the keeper of Sackets Harbor Lighthouse after him. When Horace Holloway retired as the lighthouse keeper of the Sackets Harbor Lighthouse, he continued to live on Horse Island at the lighthouse with his daughter and son-in-law until he passed away in May of 1920 at the age of eighty-four.
