The 1867 Tchefuncte River Light is Madisonville’s resident lighthouse, sitting on a now separated island from land about two miles distant from the museum. It is one of the few remaining lighthouses in Louisiana that has survived all the hurricanes and is still in its original location. However, it is the second lighthouse to be constructed there, having been built as the replacement for the original 1837 lighthouse that was badly damaged in the Civil War.
