The 1848 Bayou Bonfouca Lighthouse was located inside Lake Pontchartrain at the western edge of Spanish West Florida. As depicted in the diorama, Confederate troops burned the lighthouse down in 1862 and took Keeper Vincenzo Scorza captive. Scorza later escaped, but the lighthouse was not rebuilt. Instead, the Point Aux Herbes Lighthouse was constructed across the lake to take its place.
