Two of the station keepers are scanning the waters at Point Wilson. On April 1, 1921 the passenger vessel Governor was rammed by the steamer West Hartland within a mile of the lighthouse just after midnight. Keeper Thomas, presumably on duty at the time, heard the crash and immediately alerted Port Townsend to send rescue launches. It was felt by many that due to William J. Thomas’ vigilance, many lives were saved that would have been lost that night as the Governor sank a short time after the collision. Back to the edition of: Jan/Feb 2020
