Photo Caption:

Green Island Lighthouse in Green Bay near Marinette, Wisconsin as it appeared in 1932 shortly before it was automated. The lighthouse was abandoned in 1956 and left to the elements and vandals. Today it is in total ruin. Over the years, the private owner of the island has discussed building a resort and rebuilding the lighthouse, but those plans never materialized. The lighthouse should not be confused with the Green Island Lighthouse in Lake Erie near Put-in-Bay, Ohio, which is also in ruins. (Lighthouse Digest archives)
