Wesley Pingree was assistant keeper at Deer Island Light from 1892 to 1894 and then returned as head keeper from 1895 to 1899. He worked as an engineer at the Metropolitan Plumbing Station in 1916 and likely assisted in the failed attempt to rescue McCabe, though it was his 15-year-old son, Philip, who was credited in the newspaper accounts with the efforts because he had been following McCabe back to the light when the accident occurred.
