Photo Caption:

The Cape Charles Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse of its type and the second tallest lighthouse in the United States. The keeper’s house was destroyed in a fire in 2019 and the tower is now on the Lighthouse Digest Doomsday List of Endangered Lighthouses. Charles F. Sadler and James G. Williams, who served at Virginia’s Cape Charles Lighthouse, were two of the keepers honored in October of 2020 with Lighthouse Service Memorial Markers by the Chesapeake Chapter of the U.S. Lighthouse Society.
