One of the first designs of Carl W. Leick that was used in multiple lighthouse plans was a stand-alone cylindrical tower housing a first order lens. The brick masonry incorporated a cement plaster overlay with a small workroom building attached at the base. This tower can be currently seen at Heceta Head and Umpqua River Lighthouses, both built in 1893 in Oregon, and at North Head Lighthouse in Washington, built a few years later. (National Archives)
