Carl W. Leick’s earlier octagonal lighthouse designs with towers rising from the roof center were well-adapted to use in Alaska’s harsh climate. The only major difference between Cape Sarichef, Mary Island, Scotch Cap and Tree Point lighthouses, all constructed between 1903 and 1904, is the height of the tower in order to create the correct focal plane for the light.
