The light on Nova Scotia’s Ciboux Island, more commonly known as Bird Island, was first exhibited on November 26, 1874. Maggie Campbell was not the only keeper’s wife to lose her husband on the island. First keeper Malcolm Morrison’s wife also tended the light alone for eight months when her husband was killed in a gun accident on October 5, 1870. (Lighthouse Digest archives)
