In 1935, the year the three men bought Tenants Harbor Lighthouse, Adriel Bird sent this innovative Christmas card out to all his friends and associates proudly showing off his new lighthouse purchase with a La Touraine Coffee plane flying overhead. Samuel Bickford’s grandson, Jeffrey, reports that Samuel had received an exact model of the red and blue plane, presumably a gift from Adriel Bird. “That small model was poised as in flight on a base made from one of the engine pistons of that aircraft. Its history is engraved on the piston,” Jeff wrote. (Courtesy of William H. Wincapaw III)
