Photo Caption:

In 1951, a year after Adriel Bird’s death, the two remaining owners, Edwin Beinecke and Samuel Bickford donated Tenants Harbor Lighthouse to the Knox County General Hospital, shown here. The hospital then sold it to Walter Whitehead in 1954 who, in turn, sold it to Betsy and Andrew Wyeth in 1978. Unfortunately, Whitehead did little maintenance on it. The Wyeth family has done a wonderful job in restoring and preserving it up to the present day. (Lighthouse Digest archives)
