California’s Roe Island Lighthouse in its prime. In was built in 1891 in Suisun Bay. Note the building on the left is a near duplicate of the actual lighthouse, minus its lantern room. In the 1944 Port Chicago explosion the bell tower was knocked off its foundation and pushed into the lighthouse. Photograph courtesy of the Nautical Research Center.
