This close up view of California’s Roe Island Lighthouse shows damage by the Port Chicago explosion that killed over 300 sailors. If you look closely you will see that building between the keeper’s dwellings is cracked in half from the Port Chicago explosion. The lighthouse was discontinued shortly thereafter and sold at auction. Several years later a fire started by arsonists completely destroyed the lighthouse.
