Whether the keeper, standing by the railing at the North River Bar Lighthouse, was on his way to the privy or had just finished using it, when he posed for this photograph, will never be known. Built in 1866 on the North River near Coinjock, NC the lighthouse was abandoned in the 1920s. It was moved to the mainland and was used as a school building until 1951. Now part of a community center very little resembles the original structure. Back to the edition of: November 2008
