On March 29, 2017, at the age of 93, my dear mother, Dorothy A. Harrison, passed away.

She was my friend and my mentor. I am thankful for the strong Christian upbringing that she gave me and my three brothers and sister. She left behind an extended family of many wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren.

But when it came to lighthouses, which she loved dearly, she was my biggest fan. Ever since our very first issue of Lighthouse Digest in May of 1992, she promoted the magazine to anyone who would listen. She always kept a supply of copies of Lighthouse Digest in her car, ready to be handed out to anyone who might be interested, and over the years she secured countless new subscribers to the magazine.

When we had our retail store, she loved to work behind the counter and talk lighthouses with anyone willing to listen. Over the years, she visited many lighthouses and could often be seen helping to staff our booths at the Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival that was held for 20 years in Alpena, Michigan. Her home was decorated with lighthouse collectibles and framed lighthouse paintings and prints adorned the walls. Her bookcases were filled with lighthouse books. She almost always wore a shirt, blouse, sweater, or jacket that featured lighthouses on them.

When she moved into an assisted living facility, she made sure that every resident, who wanted one, received a copy of each issue of Lighthouse Digest that she personally handed out from copies she carried in her walker.

I spoke with her nearly every day at 4 pm, and I will miss those daily phone calls. Life will never be the same.
