The Canadian government continues to give Heritage Lighthouse status to a number of its lighthouses under its Heritage Lighthouse Protection Act.

Given the heritage status designation recently is the Black Rock Point Lighthouse, a wooden tower, located at the entrance the Great Bras d’Or Channel in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Also given heritage status was the 1895 Gillis Point Lighthouse at the entrance to Maskell’s Harbour, Great Bras d’Or Channel in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The keeper’s house was removed in 1978.
