In October of 1967 FBI agents, Deputy U.S. Marshalls, and the U.S. Coast Guard guarded mob informant Joe “the Animal” Barboza Baron in the assistant keeper’s home at Thacher Island Light Station in Massachusetts from where they escorted him to and from court on several occasions. He was gunned down by a hit-man in San Francisco on February 11, 1976.
