In 1894 a lighthouse keeper's cat apparently killed the last remaining Stephens Island wren; the bird, unheard of before the cat caught one, is now extinct. The specimens killed by the cat are now in the British Museum. Tower Height: 49 Height of Focal Plane: 600 Characteristic and Range: Two white flashes every 20 seconds, visible for 27 nautical miles. Description of Tower: White, conical, cast iron tower.
