Between 1933, when it was deactivated, until 1952, the Colchester Reef Lighthouse fell into disrepair. In July 1952, Electra Havemeyer Webb, the founder of the Shelburne Museum, purchased the lighthouse. A crew of five men dismantled the lighthouse and took it to Shelburne by barge, reassembling it in less than a month. In 2006, with the help of the US Coast Guard, a solar light was installed in the lantern. In 2009, the lighthouse was lifted 4 feet and the foundation was replaced. The Shelburne Museum consists of 37 buildings, including the lighthouse, displaying collections of Americana including carriages, decoys, dolls, furniture, toys, trade signs, quilts and weathervanes. A cafe and museum store are open daily. The museum is closed January 1 to March 31. From late May to mid-October, the museum is open 10 to 5 daily. Shorter hours in spring and fall. Directions:
