Point Montara Light has been leased by the U.S. Coast Guard to the California Department of Parks and Recreation. It is now used as a youth hostel. The station was originally just a fog signal station; a light was added in 1900. The current light tower was orignally the Mayo's Beach Lighthouse tower in Massachusetts, which was shipped to California in the 1920s. Tower Height: 30 Height of Focal Plane: 70 Characteristic and Range: White flash every 5 seconds. Description of Tower: Conical white steel tower with octagonal cast iorn lantern.
