According to federal officials, six non-profits or qualified government agencies have sent letters of interest in acquiring Maine’s Halfway Rock Lighthouse and three nonprofits or qualified government entities have sent letters of interest in acquiring Maine’s Boon Island Lighthouse under the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act. This does not obligate them to actually apply for ownership.
It will be interesting to see which organizations actually apply for the lighthouses and if so, whether the government will accept their applications or if the lighthouse will eventually go up for auction to the highest bidder.
