Shown here is Robert Warrack, Superintendent of the 13th Lighthouse District, with his wife, Alice, on March 16, 1935 in Portland, Oregon at the christening and launching of the U.S. Lighthouse Service lighthouse tender Rhododendron. If you look closely, you will notice that Superintendent Robert Warrack is holding a model of Maine’s West Quoddy Head Lighthouse in Lubec, Maine that someone gave to him during the ceremony.
We wonder who gave him the model of West Quoddy Head Light. Considering that he was a Superintendent of Lighthouses on the Pacific west coast, why was he given a model of an Atlantic east coast lighthouse? Of course we can speculate, but we may never know the answer.
Also, we wonder if the model of West Quoddy Head Lighthouse is still around somewhere today. Will our research find out the answers? Or will one of readers find out first? Time will tell.
