This past January 11th, a celebration was held at the Naval Air Station Pensacola to mark the 160th anniversary of Florida’s Pensacola Lighthouse and Museum. During the almost hour-long ceremony a large number of guests heard remarks from the Pensacola Lighthouse Foundation founders Dianne Levi and Richard Callaway, and the group’s Executive Director Jon Hill. As well as celebrating the 160th anniversary of the lighthouse, the celebration marked the conclusion of a four-year, multimillion-dollar restoration effort.
As part of the overall celebration, on January 12th, a champagne brunch was provided before the christening of the 177 restored iron steps of the lighthouse. The restoration of the stairs was one of the most recent projects where people were invited to sponsor a stair for a $1,000 donation and then have a personalized plaque placed on a selected step of their choice.
